St. Anne's Renovation and Addition
Seattle, Washington
A seismic assessment of the existing unreinforced masonry three-story school building located on Queen Anne. A detailed report outlining the finding was produced. Subsequent to the report, a seismic design was performed to provide structure elements to mitigate the seismic deficiencies. To preserve the existing fabric of the school, SSF proposed using the lateral system of the addition of the Social Hall/Gymnasium to support the school. The addition literally holds onto the school from the outside during an earthquake by the use of steel channel drag struts that thread through the floors of the school.
