Tacoma, Washington
A seismic retrofit study of a six-story historic building in the Tacoma downtown area. The building has a full basement below grade. The structure is wood framed floors supported on perimeter masonry walls. There is a center post-and-beam bearing line through the long direction of the building. The average footprint is 4,000 sf per level. The retrofit includes four new full-height steel braced frames, strengthened floor diaphragms, and new foundations. Other retrofit elements are braces at the parapets and anchorage of the brick veneer.
