Mt. Baker Presbyterian Church
Seattle, Washington
Post-earthquake investigation of the
100-foot tall bell tower at Mt. Baker Presbyterian Church.
The tower, built in 1924, experienced considerable damage
during the Nisqually earthquake. SSF worked with the
contractor to assess the condition of the tower and
determine appropriate retrofit solutions to strengthen
the structure. SSF designed a solution that involves
placement of a heavily reinforced concrete shell tied
inside the existing walls of the tower, with shotcrete
reinforcing at the upper portion of the tower.
